Product Information

Viscosity Grade VG-30 is a paving bitumen graded by its flow resistance at service and mixing-related temperatures. Under IS 73:2013, VG-30 has an absolute viscosity range of 2,400–3,600 Poise at 60°C and a minimum kinematic viscosity of 350 cSt at 135°C. VG-30 is widely specified for dense-graded asphalt and heavily trafficked pavement applications in climates where a stiffer viscosity-grade binder is required. Because grading systems differ internationally, the project specification should clearly identify IS 73:2013 or another agreed basis rather than treating VG-30 as a direct ASTM grade equivalent.

Applications

  • Dense-graded hot-mix asphalt and asphalt concrete
  • Highway and urban pavement layers where VG-30 is specified
  • Heavy-traffic road construction subject to pavement-design approval
  • Binder and wearing courses requiring a higher-viscosity paving binder
Buyer Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the viscosity range of VG-30 bitumen?

Under IS 73:2013, VG-30 has an absolute viscosity of 2,400–3,600 Poise at 60°C and minimum kinematic viscosity of 350 cSt at 135°C.

What is VG-30 bitumen used for?

VG-30 is commonly specified for hot-mix asphalt, dense-graded asphalt and road pavement layers requiring a higher-viscosity binder.

Is VG-30 an ASTM grade?

VG-30 is an IS 73 viscosity grade. ASTM has separate viscosity and performance grading systems, so direct equivalence should not be assumed without a project-specific specification.
