Product Information

Viscosity Grade VG-10 is a paving bitumen classified primarily by absolute viscosity at 60°C and kinematic viscosity at 135°C under the Indian viscosity-grading system. Compared with VG-30, VG-10 is softer and less viscous, which can improve workability and sprayability where a lower-viscosity binder is specified. The VG designation belongs to the IS 73 system. It should not be presented as automatically equivalent to ASTM AC viscosity grades or penetration grades. Project engineers should select the grade according to the governing road authority specification, climate, aggregate system and pavement design.

Applications

  • Surface treatments and spray applications where VG-10 is specified
  • Hot-mix asphalt requiring lower binder viscosity
  • Paving in cooler service conditions, subject to local design requirements
  • Bituminous mixes where easier pumping and coating are beneficial
Buyer Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is VG-10 bitumen?

VG-10 is a viscosity-graded paving bitumen defined under IS 73, with absolute viscosity at 60°C of 800–1,200 Poise and minimum kinematic viscosity at 135°C of 250 cSt.

Is VG-10 the same as penetration bitumen 80/100?

No. They use different grading systems. VG-10 is defined by viscosity under IS 73, while 80/100 is a penetration designation. Any equivalence must be established by the project specification and test results.

Where is VG-10 commonly used?

It is used where a lower-viscosity paving binder is specified, including certain surface treatments, spray applications and asphalt mixtures requiring easier workability.
