Blown / Oxidized Bitumen 85/25
A widely used oxidized bitumen grade combining high softening point with moderate penetration for waterproofing, roofing, coating and industrial formulations.
View Details
A hard oxidized bitumen with a high softening point and low penetration, developed for waterproofing, coating, insulation and industrial compounding applications.
URMEX oxidized-bitumen range: 85/25 and 90/15. 90/15 is the harder/lower-penetration option.
| Property | Test Method | Unit | Requirement | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Penetration at 25°C, 100 g, 5 s | ASTM D5 | dmm | 10–20 | Nominal midpoint ≈ 15 |
| Softening Point (Ring & Ball) | ASTM D36 | °C | 85–95 | Nominal midpoint ≈ 90°C |
| Loss on Heating | ASTM D6 | % mass | Max. 0.2 | |
| Flash Point, Cleveland Open Cup | ASTM D92 | °C | Min. 250 | Common commercial minimum; verify buyer specification |
| Solubility | ASTM D2042 / equivalent contract method | % mass | Min. 99.5 | Common commercial requirement |

It is a commercial grade designation centered around a softening point of about 90°C and penetration of about 15 dmm, with contractual acceptance ranges around those nominal values.
Controlled air oxidation increases softening point and reduces penetration, producing a harder and less temperature-sensitive material suited to industrial and waterproofing applications.
Common uses include roofing and waterproofing compounds, pipe coatings, mastics, sealants, insulation products and industrial adhesives.
