Blown / Oxidized Bitumen 90/15
A hard oxidized bitumen with a high softening point and low penetration, developed for waterproofing, coating, insulation and industrial compounding…
View Details
A widely used oxidized bitumen grade combining high softening point with moderate penetration for waterproofing, roofing, coating and industrial formulations.
URMEX oxidized-bitumen range: 85/25 and 90/15. 85/25 is softer and more penetrable than 90/15.
| Property | Test Method | Unit | Requirement | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Penetration at 25°C, 100 g, 5 s | ASTM D5 | dmm | 20–30 | 25 ± 5 dmm class range |
| Softening Point (Ring & Ball) | ASTM D36 | °C | 80–90 | 85°C nominal midpoint |
| Loss on Heating | ASTM D6 | % mass | Max. 0.2 | |
| Solubility | ASTM D2042 / equivalent contract method | % mass | Min. 99.5 | |
| Flash Point, Cleveland Open Cup | ASTM D92 | °C | Min. 250 | Common commercial minimum; buyer specification may require a higher value |
Specification limits are editable and should be aligned with the buyer’s purchase specification and the shipment Certificate of Analysis.
The grade name follows the midpoint convention: softening point around 85°C and penetration around 25 dmm, normally represented by acceptance ranges of 80–90°C and 20–30 dmm.
It is commonly used in roofing, waterproofing, pipe coating, mastics, sealants, insulation, adhesives and other industrial bituminous compounds.
Yes. 85/25 has a higher penetration range and a slightly lower softening-point range, making it less hard than 90/15.
